Iraq’s oil field modernization efforts gained momentum as Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani visited the Majnoon oil field in Basra province. He inspected key projects run under national management and confirmed the government’s full commitment to expanding the energy sector.
During the tour, Iraq’s oil field the minister reviewed progress on the DS2 processing station. He noted that construction had reached 85% completion and would finish before the end of this year.
The DS2 station plays a crucial role in separating oil, gas, and water drawn from underground reservoirs. Iraq uses this type of station during early production at major fields such as Majnoon and Rumaila.
Abdul Ghani met with members of parliament and local officials during his visit. He stressed the importance of strategic development projects for boosting crude oil production and increasing gas sector investment.
The Majnoon oil field holds vast reserves and offers strong potential for national energy growth. Iraqi engineers and technicians now lead most operations, proving Iraq’s ability to manage major oil projects using local expertise.
Iraq’s oil field modernization efforts also focus on expanding natural gas recovery and reducing gas flaring. Stations like DS2 help capture gas that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere. The captured gas supports electricity generation and industrial use.
The minister emphasized that strong infrastructure projects will secure Iraq’s long-term energy goals. He explained that increasing domestic processing capacity strengthens energy security and drives economic stability.
He urged project teams to complete DS2 on schedule while upholding high safety and quality standards. Abdul Ghani expressed confidence in the crews working on-site and thanked them for maintaining strong performance.
His visit to Majnoon underscored Iraq’s growing ability to modernize its oil industry and use its resources more effectively. These projects form part of a broader plan to strengthen the entire energy sector.
