Trebil Border Crossing Sees 1,000 Trucks Daily as Iraq Expands Infrastructure

Iraq’s main western trade gateway is experiencing strong commercial growth as officials report rising traffic at the Iraq-Trebil border crossing with Jordan. Around 1,000 trucks now pass through the crossing every day, reflecting expanding trade flows between the two countries.

The crossing connects Iraq with Jordan through the western province of Al-Anbar and serves as the country’s only land route to Jordan. Officials say the facility has become a key hub for imports and regional transport.

Local authorities confirmed that trucks entering Iraq carry a wide range of goods. These include petroleum products, construction materials, sulfur, consumer goods, and supplies for Iraq’s public food ration system. The steady flow highlights the importance of the Iraq-Trebil border crossing activity for national trade.

Rutba district commissioner Imad al-Rishawi said the increasing number of trucks requires urgent infrastructure improvements. He explained that expansion plans are already underway to improve storage yards and parking facilities.

Authorities are also upgrading operational areas inside the crossing. Furthermore, work includes the rehabilitation of transport platforms and the expansion of service zones to reduce congestion. Officials say these changes aim to improve efficiency and traffic management.

Security systems at the crossing are also being strengthened. New surveillance cameras and scanning equipment are being installed to improve monitoring and border control. Officials believe these upgrades will help maintain smooth operations as trade volume continues to grow.

The Iraq-Trebil border crossing activity has become a major part of Iraq’s import system. However, experts say the crossing handles a large share of the country’s incoming goods, making it one of the most important trade points in the region.

According to earlier estimates, Trebil accounts for nearly half of Iraq’s total imports. Goods worth billions of dollars pass through the crossing each year, making it a critical supply route for the national economy.

Authorities are also planning additional expansion projects to support future demand. In addition, these include preparing new loading platforms and improving logistics infrastructure to speed up truck movement.

Officials expect further growth in trade between Iraq and Jordan in the coming years. Improved infrastructure at Trebil could reduce delays and increase efficiency for importers and transport companies.

The continued rise in the Iraq-Trebil border crossing activity highlights Iraq’s growing reliance on land trade routes as regional commerce expands and infrastructure development accelerates.
