Iraq Stock Exchange Trading Gains Momentum in First Half of 2026

The Iraq Stock Exchange trading activity delivered strong results during the first six months of 2026, reflecting growing investor participation and steady market performance. New figures show that trading value exceeded 390 billion Iraqi dinars, highlighting continued interest in the country’s financial markets. The latest data also points to higher index levels and active participation from brokerage firms. While several companies remained inactive, the broader market continued to show resilience throughout the reporting period.

During the first half of the year, the Iraq Stock Exchange recorded total trading worth 390.35 billion Iraqi dinars, equal to approximately 296.67 million US dollars. Investors exchanged more than 389.46 billion shares across 112 trading sessions. These figures demonstrate consistent market activity despite ongoing economic challenges facing the country.

Trading involved 90 companies listed on the exchange. Together, these firms completed 119,375 transactions during the six-month period. Thirty-seven licensed brokerage companies facilitated these deals through the exchange’s electronic trading platform. The digital system continued to support faster execution and improved transparency for investors.

Market indicators also showed positive momentum. The ISX60 index closed the first half of 2026 at 1,019.39 points. That result represented a 5.56 percent increase compared with the same period one year earlier. Investors often view the index as an important measure of the overall market’s direction and investor confidence.

The ISX15 index posted even stronger growth. It finished the first half at 1,273.79 points, representing a 16.52 percent annual increase. This stronger performance suggests that leading companies delivered solid results and attracted greater investor attention. As a result, confidence in selected large-cap stocks appeared to strengthen throughout the period.

Even with those gains, not every listed company participated in market activity. Twenty-two companies recorded no share trading during the first six months of the year. In addition, eight companies remained suspended throughout the reporting period. Their absence reduced the number of actively traded securities available to investors.

Despite these inactive listings, the exchange maintained a healthy level of participation. Thousands of transactions occurred across different sectors, allowing investors to diversify their portfolios. Electronic trading also helped improve market efficiency and reduced delays in completing orders. These developments continue to support the modernization of Iraq’s capital market.

Analysts often monitor trading value, share volume, and index performance together when evaluating market conditions. The latest figures suggest that investor interest remained stable during the first half of 2026. Rising index levels also indicate improving sentiment among many market participants. Although challenges remain, the exchange continued to operate with consistent activity.

Looking ahead, market observers will watch whether this positive trend continues during the second half of the year. Future performance may depend on economic conditions, corporate earnings, government reforms, and investor confidence. Stronger participation from currently inactive companies could also expand market liquidity. If current momentum continues, Iraq Stock Exchange trading may attract greater domestic and international attention. The latest performance shows that Iraq Stock Exchange trading remains an important indicator of Iraq’s evolving financial sector.
