Iraq is accelerating crude output from its southern oilfields as export activity strengthens across the country. The latest Iraq oil production increase comes as regional tensions ease and shipping activity expands in the Gulf, creating favorable conditions for higher energy exports.
Officials in Iraq’s oil sector reported that production from southern oilfields has climbed to around 2.1 million barrels per day. The increase reflects stronger operations at several major fields, particularly in southern regions that serve as the backbone of the country’s oil industry. At the same time, more oil tankers have arrived at export terminals to transport crude to international markets.
The largest contribution came from the Rumaila field, one of Iraq’s most important energy assets. Production there has reached roughly 1.1 million barrels per day. Industry officials said continued development and improved operational capacity helped support the higher output level.
Meanwhile, the Zubair oilfield also recorded significant growth. Output at the field rose by about 120,000 barrels per day. As a result, total production from Zubair reached approximately 320,000 barrels per day. The increase strengthens Iraq’s ability to meet growing demand from overseas buyers.
In northern Iraq, export volumes have also shown notable growth. The State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO) announced that monthly oil shipments from Kirkuk fields through northern export routes have approached seven million barrels. Previously, those exports stood near four million barrels per month. The jump highlights stronger movement across multiple export channels.
The recent Iraq oil production increase coincides with growing maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping traffic has picked up following progress in diplomatic discussions between the United States and Iran. Improved regional stability has encouraged greater oil flows toward Asian and European markets.
Energy analysts believe stronger export capacity could provide Iraq with additional revenue opportunities in the coming months. Rising production levels may also help the country strengthen its position within global energy markets. Demand from major importing nations remains steady despite fluctuations in oil prices.
Looking ahead, the Iraqi Oil Ministry expects southern oilfield production to exceed three million barrels per day within the next one to two months. Officials view this target as part of a broader strategy to restore output levels gradually and expand export capabilities.
The government also remains committed to increasing national crude production. Authorities aim to raise output to around 4.3 million barrels per day over time. Most of the additional exports are expected to move through southern ports, which continue to handle the majority of Iraq’s oil shipments.
As production expands and export infrastructure remains active, the latest Iraq oil production increase signals Iraq’s continued effort to strengthen its role in global energy supply.
