Iraq Advances Dry Gas Pipeline for Power Generation

Iraq’s Ministry of Oil is moving forward with the construction of a dry gas pipeline to enhance power generation across the country, following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani.

Dr. Ezzat Saber Ismail, Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs, and Ali Ward Hammoud, Director General of the State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP), recently visited the Khor Al-Zubair terminal in Basra, where the pipeline’s receiving arms are being constructed.

The 40-kilometer pipeline, with a 42-inch diameter, will run from Khor Al-Zubair to the Shatt Al-Arab regulator. This vital infrastructure will provide essential gas supply flexibility to power plants throughout Iraq. Construction is progressing rapidly, adhering to engineering and technical standards.

The officials also met with Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director of the Iraqi Ports Company, to ensure smooth operations and review the on-site progress. Al-Fartousi confirmed his company’s full support for the pipeline installation, aiming for timely project completion.
