Iraqi Airways Introduces Online Check-In to Simplify Passenger Travel

Baghdad – Iraqi Airways has launched a new online check-in service, allowing passengers to complete key travel procedures before arriving at the airport. The move aims to make journeys smoother while reducing waiting times at airport terminals. The online check-in service also reflects the airline’s broader effort to modernize its operations and improve customer convenience.

The national carrier announced the launch on Monday as part of its ongoing digital transformation plans. Travelers can now use the airline’s website or mobile application to check in for their flights, select seats, and receive electronic boarding passes. These features give passengers greater flexibility and control over their travel experience.

Manaf Abdul-Moneim, Director General of Iraqi Airways, said the service enables passengers to complete important travel steps electronically before heading to the airport. By using digital tools, travelers can secure their preferred seats and obtain boarding passes without visiting traditional check-in counters.

The airline views the initiative as an important step toward adopting modern aviation practices. Many international airlines already offer similar systems, and Iraqi Airways aims to align its services with global industry standards. Company officials believe digital solutions will improve efficiency and enhance passenger satisfaction.

According to the airline, check-in typically opens between 24 and 48 hours before departure. The service remains available until approximately two hours before the scheduled flight time. This window gives travelers enough time to complete the process from their homes, offices, or while on the move.

One of the main advantages of the new system is reducing congestion at airport check-in desks. Passengers who complete the process online can avoid lengthy queues and spend less time handling travel formalities. This improvement may be especially useful during peak travel seasons when airports experience heavy passenger traffic.

The online check-in service also allows travelers to choose seats in advance. Depending on availability, some seats may be selected free of charge, while others may require an additional fee. This option gives passengers more flexibility when planning their journey.

Once check-in is complete, travelers receive a digital boarding pass containing a QR code or barcode. Airport security personnel and boarding gate staff can scan the code directly from a smartphone. As a result, passengers can move through several airport procedures more efficiently.

The launch marks another step in Iraqi Airways’ efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and improve service quality. As demand for convenient travel solutions grows, the airline hopes the new platform will provide passengers with a faster and more modern travel experience.
