Iraq-Turkiye Trade Surges as Imports Exceed $820 Million in April

Iraq-Turkiye trade continued to strengthen in April, with Iraqi imports from Turkiye climbing above $820 million, according to newly released Turkish trade data. The increase highlights the growing commercial ties between the neighboring countries and reinforces Iraq’s position as one of Turkiye’s most important regional markets.

Data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed that Iraq imported goods worth $829 million from Turkiye during April. The figure marked a significant increase from March, when Iraqi imports stood at $659 million. The rise reflects stronger demand for Turkish products across several sectors and continued economic cooperation between Baghdad and Ankara.

The latest figures placed Iraq eighth among the largest destinations for Turkish exports during the month. Several major economies ranked ahead of Iraq, but the country maintained a strong position among Turkiye’s leading trade partners.

Germany remained the top market for Turkish exports in April. Turkish shipments to Germany reached $2.113 billion during the month. The United States followed with imports valued at $1.59 billion, while the United Kingdom ranked third at $1.453 billion.

Italy secured fourth place among Turkiye’s export destinations, importing products worth $1.356 billion. Spain followed with $1.039 billion, while France imported goods valued at $1.012 billion. The United Arab Emirates also remained an important market, recording imports worth $840 million.

The continued growth of Iraq-Turkiye trade reflects the strong economic relationship between the two countries. Turkish products maintain a significant presence in Iraqi markets, ranging from consumer goods and industrial materials to agricultural products and machinery. Geographic proximity and established transportation routes continue to support the steady movement of goods across the border.

Turkiye’s export performance also demonstrated the strength of its manufacturing sector. According to the report, industrial products represented the overwhelming majority of exports during the period. Manufactured goods, along with agricultural and fisheries products, accounted for most of the country’s international sales.

Mining and quarrying products also contributed to export revenues, helping diversify Turkiye’s trade portfolio. Together, these sectors made up 94 percent of the country’s total exports in April, underscoring the importance of production-based industries to the Turkish economy.

Economic observers believe trade activity between Iraq and Turkiye could continue expanding in the coming months. Growing consumer demand, infrastructure projects, and cross-border commercial activity may support further increases in trade volumes.

The latest figures suggest that Iraq-Turkiye trade remains on an upward trajectory, strengthening economic links between the two countries while contributing to broader regional commerce and investment opportunities.
