Iraq Drills 3,902m Horizontal Well to Boost Oil Production

Iraq has completed a major oil drilling project in the east of the capital. Engineers successfully finished a 3,902-metre horizontal well in the East Baghdad oil field. As a result, the country strengthens its production capacity and technical drilling capabilities.

The project focused on well EBS-149. It reached completion using the IDC-36 drilling rig. In addition, engineers followed a detailed technical plan designed for horizontal drilling. Therefore, the Iraq oil drilling operation matched the geological conditions of the field.

The work forms part of a larger program involving 18 horizontal wells. Iraqi Drilling Company managed the project in cooperation with COSL and EBS. Consequently, the Iraq oil drilling effort reflects strong international cooperation.

Company officials confirmed that this well represents the final stage of the 18-well plan. Moreover, the team completed the program successfully without major delays. Therefore, the Iraq oil drilling project shows strong operational performance.

Additionally, the project aims to boost output from the East Baghdad field. This field remains one of the key oil sources in the country. As a result, increased drilling activity supports national energy goals. The Iraq oil drilling expansion directly contributes to higher production levels.

Furthermore, officials announced a new agreement for additional work. The company will drill 17 more horizontal wells in the same field. Preparations for the next phase have already started. Consequently, the Iraq oil drilling strategy continues beyond the current project.

The Director General of the company, Mohammed Hantoush Assad Al-Azirjawi, highlighted the technical achievement. He stated that the project demonstrates strong engineering skill and operational capability. Therefore, the Iraq oil drilling success marks an important milestone.

Moreover, horizontal drilling technology improves oil recovery efficiency. It allows better access to underground reserves. In addition, it reduces surface impact compared to traditional drilling. As a result, the Iraq oil drilling approach supports modern energy development.

In conclusion, Iraq continues to expand its oil sector through advanced drilling projects. The completion of the 3,902-metre well strengthens production and future development plans.
