Iraq Gas Expansion Adds 600 Tons

Iraq has started a new step to boost its energy supply. The country moves forward with an Iraqi gas expansion plan. This Iraq gas expansion supports power stability. It also reduces waste and improves production.

The Ministry of Oil leads this effort through the South Gas Company. In addition, officials work closely with the Oil Projects Company. Together, they aim to process more associated gas. As a result, power plants will receive more fuel.

Ezzat Saber, Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs, confirmed the project launch. He explained that the plan focuses on faster gas processing. Moreover, the project will secure about 55 million cubic feet per day of dry gas. This supply will directly support electricity generation.

At the same time, engineers will move gas from key oilfields in Basra. These fields include Bin Omar, Majnoon, and North Rumaila. Each location plays a major role in gas recovery. Therefore, the project strengthens national energy capacity.

The Iraq gas expansion also includes pipeline construction. Workers will build a network in two stages. First, crews will complete 4.5 kilometers of pipelines. Then, they will add another 4 kilometers. This step-by-step plan ensures fast progress.

Importantly, the first phase will finish within 15 days. This rapid timeline shows a strong commitment. Officials want quick results to ease pressure on the power grid. Consequently, the country expects faster improvements.

Furthermore, the project will add around 600 tons of liquefied gas daily. This increase will boost domestic production. It will also reduce the need for imports. In addition, it will help cut gas flaring at oilfields.

Gas flaring has long affected Iraq’s energy sector. However, this project aims to limit that waste. By capturing more gas, Iraq can use its resources better. As a result, the economy will benefit.

Currently, Iraq depends heavily on imported gas. The country brings in about 50 million cubic feet from Iran. This supply supports many power plants. In fact, Iranian gas covers more than 40 percent of fuel use.

It also generates about one-third of Iraq’s electricity. Therefore, reducing this dependence remains a key goal. The Iraq gas expansion helps move in that direction.

Despite large oil reserves, Iraq still faces energy shortages. Demand rises sharply during the summer months. It can exceed 50,000 to 55,000 megawatts. Meanwhile, current production stays between 27,000 and 28,000 megawatts.

Because of this gap, the country needs urgent solutions. This project offers one of those solutions. It improves supply and supports long-term stability. At the same time, it strengthens energy independence.

In conclusion, Iraq continues to invest in gas development. The Iraq gas expansion shows clear progress. It boosts production, reduces waste, and supports the electricity supply. Therefore, it marks an important step forward.
