Iraq continues to maintain food security across the country. The food security Iraq initiative focuses on uninterrupted distribution, restoring essential crop imports, and stabilizing markets. Authorities emphasize that citizens’ access to key food items remains a top priority amid fluctuating supply conditions.
The Ministry of Trade confirmed that food basket distributions are ongoing without interruption. Officials stated that the government maintains sufficient reserves to meet both regular and emergency demand. Deliveries extend across all provinces to minimize price fluctuations and ensure equitable access for all communities.
Last year, the government completed ten full food basket cycles and distributed ten flour rations. Authorities announced that this same pace of distribution will continue, reflecting their commitment to protecting food security and household stability. The ministry also monitors storage and delivery systems to ensure supplies reach eligible recipients efficiently, avoiding bottlenecks or shortages.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture has resumed imports for five crops: cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, beetroot, and lettuce. Imports restarted after the local production season ended due to declining domestic supply. Approval from the Ministerial Council for the Economy allowed authorities to coordinate these imports to complement domestic production and maintain market stability.
Officials highlighted that combining local production with targeted imports strengthens Iraq’s capacity to meet demand consistently. This dual approach helps prevent shortages and sudden price increases, which can affect families across the country.
Experts also note that timely imports and careful distribution are critical for maintaining food stability. Coordinated action between trade and agriculture authorities ensures that essential items reach markets promptly, supporting both consumers and local businesses.
Iraq’s proactive management of reserves, delivery logistics, and import approvals demonstrates a commitment to national food security. Authorities continue to monitor market trends, adjust supply strategies, and ensure stable prices nationwide. The plan aims to protect both citizens’ nutrition and broader economic stability.
