Iraq’s Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, held a strategic meeting with World Bank representative Emanuel Salinas Munoz to explore ways to expand cooperation on key development initiatives and Iraq World Bank cooperation. Both parties focused on enhancing infrastructure, strengthening human capital, and accelerating sustainable growth in line with Iraq’s national goals.
During the talks, Sami and Munoz emphasized the urgent need to empower Iraq’s private sector. They also highlighted the importance of increasing investment across critical sectors to fuel long-term economic resilience. According to officials, comprehensive financial reform remains a priority to ensure economic stability and support broader development efforts.
Moreover, the World Bank representative reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to backing Iraq’s development roadmap. He noted that Iraq faces several complex economic and environmental challenges that require coordinated international support. The World Bank aims to provide both financial assistance and policy advice to guide reforms.
In a related meeting, Minister Sami welcomed World Bank Regional Director Maskarine Bahrini. That discussion centered on aligning technical and financial assistance with Iraq’s vision for sustainable development. Both sides stressed the importance of channeling resources into green energy, climate adaptation, and eco-friendly infrastructure.
Furthermore, the two delegations reviewed several ongoing World Bank programs focused on environmental protection and better resource management. These programs aim to help Iraq transition toward a greener economy and improve its ability to withstand climate risks.
Sami reiterated that her ministry is committed to supporting environmental policy through smart budgeting and targeted investment. She also expressed readiness to fund projects that promote energy efficiency and sustainability in urban planning, transportation, and industrial sectors.
