Iraq ports revenue surged in the first quarter of 2025, signaling strong performance and increased operational capacity. The total income exceeded 314 billion Iraqi dinars, which equals about $240 million. These earnings came from key facilities including Umm Qasr North and South, Khor Al-Zubair, Abu Flous, and offshore oil terminals.
Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), announced these figures in a recent statement. He explained that this growth reflects targeted improvements in logistics and infrastructure. For instance, enhanced cargo handling systems have reduced congestion and delays. Also, the adoption of new digital platforms improved customs clearance speed and accuracy.
Monthly revenues varied slightly but remained strong throughout the quarter. January produced over 109 billion dinars. February followed with nearly 99 billion dinars. March rounded out the quarter with about 106 billion dinars. These consistent figures show that Iraq ports revenue is growing steadily.
Meanwhile, GCPI continues to invest in modernising port operations. Plans include upgrading berths to handle larger vessels and expanding yard space for cargo storage. These efforts aim to support rising demand for imports and exports through Iraq’s strategic maritime locations.
Furthermore, the company wants to deepen integration with advanced port technology. This includes artificial intelligence tools and smart logistics tracking. These systems will increase transparency, lower shipping delays, and boost investor confidence.
In addition, Iraq ports revenue plays a crucial role in supporting the national economy. As regional trade intensifies, Iraqi ports offer an important gateway for commercial flows across the Gulf and into Asia. More improvements are expected to strengthen Iraq’s position as a logistics hub in the Middle East.
