Iraq Produces First Batch of Kia Field Vehicles

Iraq has successfully produced its first batch of Kia field vehicles, marking a milestone for the local automotive industry. The State Company for Automotive Industry (SCAI), under the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, completed assembly of 360 single-cabin Kia 2700 vehicles. This achievement reflects Iraq’s growing capability to manufacture cars domestically.

The vehicles were assembled entirely by Iraqi workers in partnership with South Korea’s Kia Motors, the country’s second-largest automobile manufacturer. SCAI’s director, Dana Saeed, explained that production took place at the Babylon Car Production Plant. Workers followed eight major production stages, including body assembly, technical testing, and final quality verification.

Each vehicle underwent a rigorous road test to ensure it met all required standards. Quality control teams monitored every step closely, confirming that the vehicles complied with technical and safety specifications. This first batch represents only a portion of the 1,000 automobiles planned for production in the coming months.

Saeed highlighted that Kia field vehicles are in high demand within Iraq. Their durability and adaptability make them ideal for both personal and industrial use. The vehicles can navigate Iraq’s diverse terrain while providing reliable performance. Analysts said this production effort aligns with Iraq’s broader strategy to develop local industries and reduce dependence on imports.

SCAI has previously produced over 2,700 Kia sedans and more than 3,000 Kia pickup trucks. The expansion into field vehicles signals a significant step toward modernizing Iraq’s car manufacturing sector. Saeed added that the project provides employment opportunities for Iraqi workers while promoting technical skills development.

In line with the ‘Made in Iraq’ initiative, the Ministry of Trade has signed agreements with carmakers from Germany, China, and Brazil. These agreements aim to establish assembly lines in Iraq, employ local talent, and produce environmentally friendly vehicles. The initiative supports affordable car ownership and contributes to sustainable industrial growth.

The newly produced Kia field vehicles will run on gas instead of gasoline, reducing environmental impact. In addition, the vehicles are designed to be cost-effective, enabling low-income buyers to purchase them through installment plans with low interest rates. Experts said these measures make cars more accessible while supporting Iraq’s industrial economy.

Overall, Iraq’s production of Kia field vehicles reflects the country’s commitment to domestic manufacturing, sustainability, and economic development. The collaboration with international partners demonstrates Iraq’s ability to meet both local demand and modern automotive standards.
