Iraq-China Trade Surpasses $55 Billion Annually, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Trade between Iraq and China has surpassed $55 billion annually, reflecting the growing economic cooperation between the two nations, according to Xu Haifeng, the counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Iraq. During a visit to Najaf province, Haifeng emphasized that the bilateral relationship has reached significant milestones since the strategic partnership agreement was signed ten years ago.

He praised the increased political trust fostered by frequent leaders’ visits and reaffirmed China’s support for Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Haifeng highlighted the positive economic outcomes of this partnership, noting that Chinese companies have played a key role in Iraq’s oil industry and infrastructure development, with over 600 schools built across various provinces.

In addition to oil production, Chinese businesses have supported Iraq in its efforts to enhance gas production, contributing to the country’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in gas. Haifeng also noted the rapid expansion of Chinese investments in Iraq, particularly in infrastructure and energy sectors.
