The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced progress on the floating terminal project for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ministry highlighted that the LNG terminal project is essential for strengthening electricity generation. Officials explained that the Council of Ministers and the Ministerial Energy Council approved clear mechanisms for the project. As a result, six companies received invitations to submit technical and commercial proposals.
Moreover, the Ministry confirmed that specialized technical and ministerial committees reviewed and studied the bids. After evaluations, only two companies remain in the final stage. The next ministerial committee meeting will determine the winning bidder. The ministry underlined that the LNG terminal project will guarantee more reliable energy for Iraq.
To support the project, South Gas Company and the State Company for Oil Projects completed two new pipelines. One pipeline extends 40 kilometers from Khor al-Zubair to Shatt al-Arab. Another pipeline stretches 45 kilometers from Mahmoudiya to the Bismayah power station. Both pipelines were completed under difficult conditions, but engineers managed to finish them on time. These new pipelines will help move gas efficiently and ensure smooth energy supply.
In addition, the Ministry of Oil rejected all accusations of favoritism toward any bidder. Officials stressed that every step of the LNG terminal project follows legal rules. They also confirmed that multiple ministries monitor the process for full transparency. The Ministry further announced that it will take legal action against outlets spreading misleading information. It emphasized that misleading coverage does not reflect the actual progress of the project.
The Ministry expressed confidence that the project will move forward quickly. With the LNG terminal project in place, Iraq aims to secure a steady energy supply. This step will support power plants and reduce pressure on the national grid. Officials also pointed out that the project will provide more stability for future growth. Iraq is determined to develop its infrastructure and guarantee better electricity for its people.
In conclusion, the LNG terminal project stands as a vital step for Iraq’s energy security. With new pipelines, transparent bidding, and government oversight, the project will improve electricity production. Iraq is focusing on long-term solutions to meet rising energy demand.
