Iraq gas pipeline project has completed a major step in its energy infrastructure plan. The State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) successfully finished a critical drilling task beneath the Tigris River. This work supports the larger Mahmudiya-Bismayah energy project.
In addition, The Iraq gas pipeline project used horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to lay a 42-inch pipeline. It runs 600 meters under the river in the Sayafiyah area. The pipeline sits 22 meters below ground, making it the longest crossing of the entire project.
The Baghdad Projects Directorate handled the complex drilling operation. Their team followed international safety and quality standards throughout the process.
Ali Ward Hamoud, SCOP’s Director General, explained the project’s significance. He said it will directly supply natural gas to Iraq’s power stations. This step is vital to keeping the country’s growing energy needs under control.
