Iraq Pushes Development Road Progress as Faw Port Nears Completion

Iraq continues to accelerate its Development Road progress as Grand Faw Port moves closer to full operation. The country views these strategic projects as vital for long-term trade and transport growth.

Additionally, the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas al-Saadawi, led a high-level meeting to assess the status of the Development Road Project. He urged officials to respect deadlines and improve coordination with international and national partners. He stressed that Iraq must deliver these projects on time.

During the meeting, ministry officials discussed the detailed design phase of the Development Road. They plan to present a workable segment to major international companies by year’s end. These segments aim to attract investment and technical support from leading global infrastructure players.

Therefore, the session also included a review of cadastral map distribution across key provinces. The reviewed regions included Basra, Dhi Qar, Najaf, al-Anbar, Baghdad, Diwaniyah, and Saladin. Officials confirmed that more regions will join the project scope in future stages.

Moreover, Minister al-Saadawi also highlighted the need for stronger coordination with Turkiye. He pointed to technical and logistical planning as key areas where Iraq and Turkiye must collaborate. This partnership will shape the project’s next operational phase and ensure smoother implementation.

In the same session, Ports Director Farhan Al-Fartousi delivered a comprehensive update on Grand Faw Port. He confirmed 92% completion of the navigational channel and 94% completion of the container yard. The container terminal already includes five fully delivered berths.

He also stated that the road connecting the port to inland transport networks has reached full completion. Officials are now in talks about managing the port and launching it for international investment opportunities. These efforts mark a major shift in Iraq’s push for infrastructure-driven growth.

Additionally Al-Saadawi closed the meeting with a clear message. He urged urgency in completing the Development Road progressand Grand Faw Port. Also, he described these projects as critical to Iraq’s economic rebound. He said Iraq aims to become a transport and trade hub connecting Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Therefore, Al-Saadawi noted that the Development Road progress must remain steady and transparent to inspire investor confidence. He also stressed the need for better internal coordination and faster decision-making.

In conclusion, Iraq now enters a key phase where real implementation will determine the impact of its ambitious plans.
