Iraq Awards Artawi Oil Field Seawater Project to Hyundai

The Iraq Artawi seawater project government approved a major step to address water scarcity. It awarded the Common Seawater Supply Project for the Artawi oil field to Hyundai Engineering & Construction of South Korea. This decision strengthens both oil production plans and water management efforts in the region.

The project, known as CSSP-ITT-05, will include engineering, procurement, supply, construction, commissioning, and operation of a seawater treatment plant. This plant will process and deliver treated seawater for oil field operations. It aims to support energy production while reducing pressure on freshwater resources.

Government officials also confirmed the results of detailed price negotiations. They granted the award as an exception to Government Contracts Implementation Instructions No. 2 of 2014. This adjustment accounts for steps taken between 2018 and 2021 under specific financial authorities.

In addition, Iraq Artawi seawater project the government formed a special investigative committee. This committee will review legal violations from 2018 involving the direct invitation of companies without proper approvals. Officials will present the committee’s findings to the Prime Minister for a final decision.

The choice of Hyundai Engineering & Construction reflects Iraq’s push to work with experienced international companies. It also highlights the country’s strategy to combine energy development with water resource management.

This seawater supply initiative will play a vital role in supporting oil production at Artawi. At the same time, it will reduce freshwater usage and protect vital supplies for communities and agriculture.
