Baghdad Airport Upgrade Agreements Signed

AFM Group, a Swiss company that builds airport systems, has signed two new Baghdad Airport upgrade agreements. These deals were made with Iraq’s General Company for Air Navigation Services (GCANS). The projects will focus on improving safety, technology, and energy use at Baghdad International Airport.

The first agreement covers the airfield lighting system. AFM Group will replace old lights with energy-efficient LED systems. This upgrade improves visibility and reduces power consumption. It also helps meet international aviation safety standards.

The second part of the Baghdad Airport upgrade agreements focuses on navigation systems. GCANS and AFM Group plan to replace outdated equipment with modern tools. These tools support aircraft takeoff, landing, and airspace management.

Both agreements highlight Iraq’s commitment to developing its aviation sector. The airport serves as a vital hub for travelers and cargo. Therefore, its modernization helps strengthen Iraq’s connection to global markets.

Moreover, the new LED lighting and navigation systems will reduce operating costs. They also improve reliability and safety for passengers and airline staff. AFM Group brings years of experience and advanced technology to the project.

Officials from GCANS stated that the upgrade supports Iraq’s aviation goals. They also said it improves Baghdad Airport’s readiness for higher passenger traffic. Additionally, modern systems attract more international carriers to Iraq.

Iraq’s Ministry of Transport welcomed the move as part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure. Baghdad Airport is one of the country’s busiest, and it plays a key role in regional travel. The agreements with AFM Group reflect a strategic step toward progress.

In recent months, Iraq has signed several infrastructure development deals. These include projects for roads, bridges, and public transportation. The Baghdad Airport upgrade agreements add to these national efforts.

Furthermore, the partnership with a Swiss company shows Iraq’s openness to international cooperation. It also ensures that global standards guide the airport’s new design and systems.

AFM Group expressed strong interest in supporting more aviation projects in Iraq. The company’s leadership said it looks forward to long-term collaboration. GCANS also plans to train staff on new systems as part of the agreements.
