Iraqi Courts Freeze Billions in Assets Tied to Oil Official Probe

Iraqi courts have frozen assets worth about 69 billion dinars in an expanding corruption investigation. The Al-Jumaili corruption case centers on detained Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs Adnan Al-Jumaili. Judges targeted high-value property, industrial businesses, and transport equipment. The action came from the Nineveh Investigation Court for Integrity Cases.

Court investigators said the assets included commercial properties in central Mosul. They valued nine properties at roughly 45 billion Iraqi dinars. The court also ordered the seizure of three operating flour mills. Officials estimated the mills’ value at 24 billion dinars.

The court’s order also covered seven modern transport trucks، Reports placed the value of each vehicle near $200,000. Together, the assets formed part of a wider financial network under investigation، Judicial authorities aim to prevent further transfers or sales during the inquiry.

Investigators said the network used low-paid workers’ names to register some properties. They believe this practice hid the true source and ownership of the assets. Such arrangements can make financial investigations more difficult. The court now seeks to trace the movement of suspected illicit funds.

The Al-Jumaili corruption case also led to a major gold recovery. The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court reported the recovery of 375 kilograms of gold bullion. Security forces carried out the operation with Kurdistan Region authorities، Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zaidan directly supervised the process, according to the court.

Officials transferred the recovered gold to the Central Bank of Iraq. The move placed the bullion under formal state custody. As well as, Authorities said the transfer protects the assets while legal proceedings continue. as well as, The recovery added significant weight to the investigation.

Judges appointed judicial custodians to manage the mills and commercial properties. These sites continue to generate income through regular operations. The custodians will direct lawful proceeds to the state treasury. However, The arrangement aims to keep the businesses productive while safeguarding public revenue.

Investigators also found 14 billion dinars in cash during a July 9 operation. They reportedly discovered the money inside a rainwater drainage pit at a secure location. Authorities continue to pursue suspects who remain at large. The Al-Jumaili corruption case now includes domestic inquiries and cross-border asset tracing efforts.
