Kurdistan PM Hails U.S. Support, Urges Baghdad to Embrace Oil Contracts

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced a successful meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Speaking at a press conference, Barzani described the discussions as excellent and encouraging for regional cooperation. He emphasized the importance of U.S. support for Kurdistan and welcomed continued engagement.

Additionally, Barzani confirmed that he invited Secretary Rubio to visit the Kurdistan Region. He noted that the United States has consistently shown support for the Kurdish people and their aspirations. This backing, he said, includes economic initiatives and energy contracts that will benefit the entire country.

Therefore, Barzani said he shared his thoughts on regional developments during the meeting. He also highlighted that the contracts between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and U.S. companies are designed to help both Kurdistan and Iraq. He urged Baghdad officials to show more understanding.

“The more flexibility Baghdad shows, the more it will see that our work helps everyone,” he stated. He expressed optimism that federal officials would recognize the value of these deals. He hopes their response reflects a national interest approach rather than political tension.

Moreover, Barzani reaffirmed that U.S. support for Kurdistan brings long-term benefits. He stressed that cooperation between Washington and Erbil strengthens Iraq as a whole. He pointed out that unity can improve economic conditions and attract more investment.

Therefore, on the internal front, Barzani discussed the upcoming formation of the new cabinet. He expressed a strong desire to see the tenth cabinet take shape quickly. Stability, he said, is key to advancing reforms and development in the Kurdistan Region. He also emphasized the importance of unity among political parties and urged all sides to prioritize national interest over partisan disagreements to achieve progress.

As a conclusion, Barzani closed his remarks by stating that continued U.S. support for Kurdistan is critical to the region’s success. He reaffirmed his commitment to diplomacy and mutual cooperation, highlighting the role of international partnerships in fostering long-term stability and growth.
