U.S. Sanctions Iraqi Network Over Iranian Oil Smuggling

The U.S. has imposed new sanctions targeting Iraqi oil smuggling networks. Officials say these groups helped Iran bypass restrictions and fund its military operations.

The U.S. Treasury Department revealed sanctions against companies led by Iraqi businessman Salim Ahmed Said. His network allegedly smuggled Iranian oil disguised as Iraqi oil.

Officials claim these actions brought large profits while secretly aiding Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force. This group is already listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S.

The sanctions also apply to several vessels that moved Iranian oil through hidden methods. These tankers belong to what officials call Iran’s “shadow fleet.” Their purpose is to move oil secretly to avoid detection.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary stressed that Iran had many chances to change its behavior. However, Iran’s leaders continue to support extremist activities, according to the official.

In addition, The sanctions aim to block Iran’s access to oil revenues. These funds reportedly help Iran finance destabilizing actions across the region.

The U.S. took these measures under Executive Orders 13902 and 13224. These orders focus on Iran’s key industries and groups connected to terrorism.

Additionally, the U.S. State Department issued sanctions on six companies and four vessels. These firms conducted major deals involving Iranian petroleum products.

The U.S. says it will keep taking action against any companies or people who assist Iran in dodging sanctions. They stress that cracking down on Iraqi oil smuggling remains a priority.

This announcement signals that the U.S. will continue targeting smuggling networks. Officials claim these groups threaten global energy markets and regional stability.

According to experts, the sanctions could complicate oil trades in the region. However, they may also create more pressure on Iran’s economy.

Furthermore, these steps aim to deter other companies from engaging in similar oil deals. The U.S. hopes this will cut off more of Iran’s oil revenue.

In summary, the U.S. remains focused on stopping Iraqi oil smuggling and limiting Iran’s financial resources.
