Iraq Digital Banking Development Strengthens Financial Inclusion

Iraq continues to move forward in digital transformation, and Iraq digital banking development plays a vital role in this process. The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), through its Mosul branch, joined the “Informatics, Digitalisation, and Their Impact on Sustainable Development” conference hosted by the University of Kirkuk. This event gathered experts, academics, and banking leaders to discuss how technology supports national progress.

Dr. Hussein Lazem, Director General of the CBI Mosul branch, represented the institution at the event. He highlighted the importance of digital innovation in Iraq’s financial sector. Moreover, he explained that Iraq digital banking development can strengthen sustainable economic growth while improving public access to financial services.

In addition, the conference included several research papers and studies. Among them, the Mosul branch of the Central Bank presented two key studies. The first paper focused on “Analysing the Potential for Implementing Electronic Banking in the Banking Sector.” It explored how digital systems can improve efficiency, transparency, and customer service. The second paper, titled “Early Warning Systems and Their Impact on the Stability of the Iraqi Dinar Exchange Rate,” examined the role of data-driven tools in maintaining financial stability.

Furthermore, Dr. Lazem stressed that Iraq digital banking development will encourage better integration between government and private banks. By adopting digital systems, banks can reduce transaction times, strengthen anti-fraud mechanisms, and reach more customers in remote areas. He added that the Central Bank supports partnerships between universities and financial institutions to drive innovation and improve professional skills.

Moreover, the president of the University of Kirkuk expressed gratitude to the Central Bank for its active contribution. He emphasized that collaboration between academia and finance is essential for Iraq’s long-term stability. Additionally, the university awarded certificates of appreciation to participants who presented innovative research.

On the sidelines of the conference, organizers held a financial inclusion exhibition. The exhibition featured several government and private banks, alongside electronic payment companies operating in Kirkuk. Visitors learned about modern banking services, including loans, deposits, prepaid cards, and digital payment systems. The exhibition also promoted awareness about financial literacy and encouraged citizens to open new bank accounts.

As Iraq digital banking development continues, the Central Bank remains committed to increasing trust in financial institutions. It aims to ensure that all citizens can access safe, modern, and transparent banking services. Consequently, Iraq’s growing digital infrastructure will help transform its economy and bring sustainable prosperity to communities nationwide.
