Iraq housing project restart delayed as the National Investment Commission (NIC) confirms a pause in new applications for homes in the Bismayah Residential Project. The commission will only reopen the application process once South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction restarts construction on the next phase.
Hanwha plans to build an extra 70,000 housing units. This delay blocks thousands of Iraqis from applying for homes in one of the country’s largest residential efforts.
NIC spokesperson Hanan Jasem listed three conditions the commission must meet before accepting new applications. First, the team will review and upgrade the digital application system. Second, the platform will reject applications from people who are too young or over 60. Third, the system will remove duplicate applications from the same family, in line with public bank lending rules.
According to Jasem, about 70,000 Iraqis already submitted applications through the “Ur” government platform. The Bismayah project will eventually offer 100,000 units to house around 600,000 people. Hanwha has already built 30,000 units. NIC has officially received 21,000 of those homes and assigned them to qualified families.
However, Hanwha has not resumed construction. The NIC will not accept new applications until the company restarts work. The housing program depends on the continuation of the building process.
Iraq housing project restart delayed, but the government still considers Bismayah a major solution to Iraq’s housing shortage. The project offers strong infrastructure, organized communities, and access to essential services. These features reduce pressure on overcrowded urban areas.
Many citizens wait for updates. Thousands who already applied hope for faster progress. NIC encourages patience as it works to make the process fair, efficient, and transparent.
The commission continues to improve the application platform. Officials aim to eliminate errors and make sure the program helps the right people. But until Hanwha returns to the construction site, the system will remain closed to new applicants.
Iraq housing project restart delayed, yet officials plan to push forward quickly once construction begins again. Iraq needs housing now more than ever, and Bismayah remains a top priority.
