Iraq Boosts Cargo Activity Under National Transport Expansion Plan

Iraq’s national transport expansion plan shows strong progress as cargo activity continues to rise across the country. The General Company for Land Transport (GCLT) reported transporting 415,000 tonnes of goods in the year’s first half.

This marked a 36% increase compared to the same period last year. Director General Murtadha Kareem Al-Shahmani confirmed the company completed 10,438 transport operations during this time.

The GCLT supported many government ministries by moving critical goods. It delivered fertilizers for the Ministry of Agriculture and electrical equipment for the Ministry of Electricity. The company also moved kerosene for the Water Resources and Health Ministries.

It supplied wheat for the Ministry of Trade and shipped medical and lab items under an air freight contract. GCLT also supported the Independent High Electoral Commission by moving various materials.

Al-Shahmani said the company handles shipments from Iraq’s seaports and ensures inter-governorate deliveriesremain on schedule. These operations meet current contractual obligations and support government services across provinces.

He added that GCLT always aims for high standards in speed, accuracy, Iraq’s national transport and reliability. The company continues to build its role in Iraq’s supply chain.

The results highlight the goals of Iraq’s national transport expansion plan. The country wants faster deliveries, better logistics, and more efficient public service support.

GCLT now plans to expand its fleet and improve vehicle scheduling. It also plans to adopt digital tracking systems for smarter operations. Al-Shahmani said GCLT may soon work with more public and private partners.

With strong leadership and smart upgrades, Iraq’s national transport expansion plan is delivering results. The increase in cargo shows the system is getting stronger.

These improvements help ministries receive goods on time. They also support Iraq’s long-term plans for trade, logistics, and governance success.

Iraq’s national transport expansion plan remains a top priority for moving the country forward.
