The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhil, and a Turkish delegation led by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peris Akinci, held discussions about increasing energy imports to 600 megawatts.
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Electricity’s headquarters, was focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Both parties explored accelerating efforts to double the current energy imports from Turkey from 300 megawatts to 600 megawatts and discussed upgrading the Jezreh-Kesk transmission line to accommodate the increased energy supply.
Additionally, the two sides agreed to move forward with implementing a memorandum of understanding recently signed between the two countries, which includes establishing strategic energy production projects, new power stations, and transmission lines.
The Turkish delegation emphasized their country’s commitment to boosting energy cooperation with Iraq, stating that they would work swiftly to increase the energy supply through interconnection lines to 600 megawatts, pending European Union approvals.
The Ministry of Electricity also highlighted its focus on expanding cooperation with Turkey in the renewable energy sector, leveraging Turkey’s experience as one of Europe’s leading countries in this field. The ministry also aims to exchange knowledge on standards and smart transformation.
