Iraq Al-Tayeb Economic City to Drive Growth and Investment

Iraq has launched administrative steps to transform the Al-Tayeb area in Maysan into a major economic hub. The National Investment Commission (NIC) leads this initiative, which forms part of Iraq’s long-term plan to diversify its economy and create new jobs. The Al-Tayeb economic city project aims to become a key driver of growth and investment in southern Iraq.

The NIC Chairman, Dr. Haider Mohammed Makiya, confirmed that Iraq’s Al-Tayeb economic project will attract huge investments exceeding $60 billion. He explained that the Commission received the master plan from international engineering company KBR. The plan includes a complete vision for infrastructure, housing, industrial zones, and logistics services. It sets the foundation for one of Iraq’s largest development projects.

Dr. Makiya said that the Al-Tayeb economic city will connect directly to Iraq’s Development Road project. This connection will help link trade routes between Asia, the Gulf, and Europe. As a result, Maysan will gain a stronger role in regional trade, while Iraq’s logistics and transport network will improve dramatically.

The Commission expects the Al-Tayeb economic city project to create thousands of new jobs across various sectors. Engineers, construction workers, and service providers will all benefit from this large-scale investment. Moreover, the project will encourage small and medium-sized businesses to grow around the new district.

The ministerial committee supervising the project held a detailed meeting to review progress. Members discussed land-use plans, financial frameworks, and mechanisms to ensure smooth implementation. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation between ministries to remove administrative obstacles. Dr. Makiya emphasized that transparency and efficient management will guide all stages of the project.

In addition, the NIC plans to coordinate closely with foreign investors. The goal is to attract advanced technology and sustainable infrastructure models to Iraq. Investors will find the Al-Tayeb economic city appealing because of its strategic location, access to trade routes, and modern design. This initiative will not only support Iraq’s economy but also improve living standards in Maysan.

Through steady planning and collaboration, Iraq’s Al-Tayeb economic city project will shape a new era of economic opportunity. It will strengthen Iraq’s position as a regional investment destination while ensuring local communities benefit from growth.
