Bazargan Oil Complex to Launch Gas Compression Unit

The Bazargan Oil Complex has announced the development of a new gas compression unit, capable of processing up to 70 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf). This initiative aims to fully utilize associated gas from Missan’s oil fields.

Hassan Falahi, head of the gas processing division, shared that a gas processing facility with a 200 MMscf capacity was launched in 2018. Of this, 30 MMscf was allocated for power generation, and 10 MMscf for oil processing and operations.

Plans are underway, in collaboration with Missan Oil Company (MOC), the Ministry of Oil, and other relevant authorities, to introduce a new gas compression unit that will process between 50-70 MMscf. The gas will be transported to the Halfaya field to supply power stations in the Al-Kahla district. The project is already in progress.

The expansion of the power plant station is also under review. This will require an additional 47 MMscf of gas for operations, along with 35 MMscf for upgrades to generation units. Once completed, Missan’s associated gas will be fully utilized.

Falahi also emphasized ongoing training initiatives for Iraqi employees, including in-house programs and specialized courses in Egypt, in partnership with Chinese companies. He noted that annual maintenance plans ensure long-term overhauls and quick repairs. The construction of a 60-kilometer gas pipeline linking Bazargan to Halfaya is 80% complete.
