Al Busttan has signed a major contract with TotalEnergies to support the Ratawi oil field redevelopment in Iraq. The deal marks a significant step in Iraq’s energy sector.
Therefore, the signing ceremony took place at Al Busttan’s North Rumaila office. Attending the event were Mr. Ismael Shakir, Managing Director of Al Busttan, and Mr. Kamal Al Atassi, Project Director for the Associated Gas Upstream Project Phase 2 (AGUP-2). AGUP-2 is one of four major projects TotalEnergies is executing in the Ratawi Field under the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP).
Additionally, Al Busttan will construct the Pioneer Camp for the project. The camp will feature single and multi-occupancy rooms, dining and recreational facilities, a fully equipped gym, a sports field, offices for 60 staff, and a medical clinic. Camp occupants will include AGUP-2 personnel and early works teams for the planned CPF-2 and Network and Wellpads (NWP) projects.
Construction of this multi-million-dollar facility will start immediately. The camp is scheduled for completion in February 2026. After completion, Al Busttan will manage the facility for an extended period. They will provide full life support services, including catering and facility management.
Furthermore, the Ratawi development project aims to increase oil production at the Ratawi oil field. AGUP-2 is expected to raise production to 210,000 barrels per day by 2028. Notably, this increase will occur without routine flaring, reducing environmental impact.
Therefore, the GGIP plays a broader role in Iraq’s energy sector. The project recovers gas currently flared at three southern oil fields. The gas will supply electric power plants, boosting Iraq’s electricity supply. Additionally, GGIP includes a 1 GWac (1.25 GWp) solar farm and a seawater treatment plant. The project combines oil, gas, solar energy, and water infrastructure, demonstrating Iraq’s commitment to sustainable energy development.
Experts say the Ratawi development project will strengthen Iraq’s energy security. Furthermore, it may attract more international investment in the country’s oil and gas sector.
In conclusion, the contract between Al Busttan and TotalEnergies advances Iraq’s energy infrastructure. The Ratawi development project combines modern facilities, increased oil production, and sustainable energy initiatives, showcasing Iraq’s growing energy potential.
