Iraq Launches Five-Year Plan for Growth and Infrastructure

Iraq has introduced a major development roadmap to guide the country through 2028. The new Iraq five-year development plan targets economic growth, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term stability.

The Ministry of Planning presented the plan as a structured and multi-sectoral strategy. It includes five core programs that focus on both human development and national reform. In addition, education and healthcare will receive major attention to build strong human capital.

The government also plans to improve business conditions through administrative and economic reform. These reforms aim to attract investment and create a more competitive market environment.

A key priority of the Iraq five-year development plan is economic diversification. Iraq wants to reduce its dependence on oil and invest in sectors like agriculture, industry, and tourism. However, Strengthening local production chains will create new jobs and support exports.

The strategy also includes infrastructure projects of national importance. As well as, Iraq will move forward with the Development Road project and the Al-Faw Grand Port. These large-scale efforts aim to improve regional trade and expand international connections.

Experts from the government, private sector, and universities helped design the plan. Fifteen committees worked on drafting it to ensure a wide range of insights and technical knowledge.

Innovation also plays a role in the Iraq five-year development plan. The strategy includes e-governance systems to improve transparency and digital tools to monitor progress. A special framework for evaluation will track results and hold institutions accountable.

By combining infrastructure development with digital upgrades and education reform, Iraq hopes to build a stronger and more stable future. The government sees this plan as a turning point for economic recovery and global integration.

As the country rebuilds from years of instability, this roadmap could help set a new course. Through collaboration across sectors, Iraq aims to grow a more resilient and diverse economy over the next five years.
