Lebanon Opens Trade and Investment Rapprochement with Iraq

Lebanon is taking new steps to build stronger economic ties with Iraq. The Lebanese government is working hard to activate a joint committee that will drive a fresh trade rapprochement with Iraq.

Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Bisat, confirmed this initiative during his visit to Baghdad. He attended the Economic and Social Council meeting before the Arab Summit. Bisat stressed that Lebanon aims to reopen channels of investment and trade with Iraq.

He stated that Iraq has always stood by Lebanon, even during the most difficult times. This long-standing friendship now opens the door to greater cooperation in both government and private sectors.

Bisat noted that they plan to activate the joint trade committee in the coming weeks. This step will help launch a full-scale trade rapprochement with Iraq.He explained that Lebanon seeks to develop deeper commercial partnerships. With Iraq’s consistent support, Lebanon sees Iraq as a key economic partner for recovery and growth.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Abu Haidar, Director General of Economy and Trade at Lebanon’s Ministry of Economy, highlighted Lebanon’s active role at the Economic and Social Council. He said Lebanon is discussing major regional projects and is committed to meaningful contributions.

Abu Haidar pointed out that Arab states presented many critical proposals. These aim to create economic momentum and overcome shared regional challenges.He added that Arab officials, including Lebanon’s, showed deep engagement during these discussions. Their goal is to boost development across multiple sectors.

Abu Haidar reiterated Lebanon’s strong Arab identity.He thanked Iraq and other Arab countries as they continue supporting Lebanon’s recovery and development. He also outlined key topics Lebanon is preparing for the Arab Summit. These include artificial intelligence, sustainable development, economic growth, and education.

Lebanon will present these ideas at the summit, where Prime Minister Nawaf Salameh is expected to attend. These proposals could help spark long-term cooperation and shared prosperity across the Arab world.

In summary, Lebanon’s trade rapprochement with Iraq marks a promising new beginning. Both countries aim to strengthen economic links and expand mutual opportunities.
