Iraq inaugurated the VAN Cement Plant, launching what the company calls the country’s largest cement production line. Facility marks a major milestone for Iraq’s industrial and economic growth and demonstrates the nation’s commitment to expanding domestic manufacturing capacity.
The Van Company for Industrial Investment and General Trading announced that the plant produces 7,000 tons of clinker daily. It manufactures various cement types, including sulfate-resistant (SRC), ordinary Portland (OPC), CEM II, oil well cement, and lightweight cement. The company designed these products to meet rising demand from Iraq’s construction and infrastructure projects, as the country expands other facilities.
Officials noted that the project plays a key role in building Iraq’s infrastructure and promoting sustainable economic growth. The company expects the plant to reach full operational capacity soon, which will further strengthen the country’s industrial base and reduce dependency on imported cement.
Founded in 1999, Van Company expanded its industrial portfolio with Van Steel, a rebar production factory established in 2020 in Erbil’s Timar Industrial Zone. Together, these projects provide integrated construction material solutions and enhance Iraq’s capacity to support large-scale infrastructure projects.
Industry analysts emphasized that the VAN Cement Plant will not only increase domestic supply but also create jobs and stimulate local industries in related sectors. They highlighted that modern industrial facilities such as this are essential for economic diversification and long-term development.
Government representatives attending the inauguration praised the facility and highlighted how it supports Iraq’s economic plans and industrial growth vision. They also stressed that such projects can attract foreign investment and improve the country’s competitiveness in construction materials.
The launch of Iraq’s largest cement facility marks a new chapter in the country’s industrial expansion. By providing high-quality cement and creating employment opportunities, the VAN Cement Plant contributes to national development goals and strengthens Iraq’s industrial infrastructure.
