Iraq Ports Summit Boosts Strategic Trade Vision

Iraq launched the IBS-Ports Summit at Grand Faw Port to strengthen its strategic trade vision. The summit, organized by the Iraqi Company for Ports in partnership with A’amal Company, carries the theme “Al-Faw is an Opportunity.” Officials highlighted the event as a platform to showcase Iraq’s future economic projects.

Additionally, Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, explained that the summit reflects Iraq’s commitment to becoming a key hub in global trade. He emphasized that the Development Road project serves as the backbone of Iraq’s strategic trade vision. The project connects Grand Faw Port to the Faysh Khabur border through dual rail and road corridors spanning 1,200 kilometers. Al-Fartousi noted that construction is advancing, with the rail line at 83% completion and the road line at 68%, while Italian consultants finalize the designs.

Moreover, Grand Faw Port forms the core of Iraq’s strategic trade vision, equipped with five modern docks, the world’s longest breakwater, and an immersed tunnel linking road networks across the navigational channel. Container yards feature advanced digital operating systems to ensure rapid cargo handling and lower transport costs.

Therefore, the summit also addresses Iraq’s logistics sector transformation. Discussions focus on investment opportunities in smart ports, industrial cities, and digital automation. Experts stressed that Iraq’s strategic location can turn the country into a competitive international logistical center. The conference encourages collaboration between local authorities, investors, and technology providers to optimize port efficiency.

Overall, the IBS-Ports Summit highlights Iraq’s commitment to modernizing port infrastructure, strengthening logistics, and boosting trade. It reinforces the country’s long-term strategy to position Iraq as a pivotal player in regional and global commerce. By investing in smart ports and transportation networks, Iraq aims to attract international business and foster economic growth across the country.
