The Ministry of Oil announced, that it is in discussions with the American company Halliburton to develop the Nahr Bin Omar field in Basra.
Basem Mohammed Khader, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, explained that the Nahr Bin Omar field is both an oil and gas field. A gas contract has already been signed, and the contracting company has begun its operations.
He added that negotiations are underway with Halliburton to focus on the oil development side of the field, complementing the ongoing gas investment project in Nahr Bin Omar.
Khader further clarified that the gas project aims to produce approximately 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, in two phases. He emphasized that establishing the necessary gas facilities will take a considerable amount of time, with a minimum estimated period for construction and operation of about three years.
