The Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) will expand its operations after a major meeting at its headquarters. Bassem Mohammed Khudair, Deputy Minister of Oil for Upstream Affairs, led the session. This move follows clear directions from Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani.
Senior officials attended the meeting, including Basim Abdul Karim Nasser from Basra Oil Company and IDC Director General Hassan Mohammed Hassan. Other top leaders from the company also joined. The Ministry stressed its strong support for Iraq Drilling Company growth in technical and operational areas.
Khudair announced that the Cabinet approved 250 billion Iraqi dinars (around $172 million) to buy new drilling and workover rigs. He thanked Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Minister Abdul Ghani for backing the company. In addition this funding marks a big step in expanding IDC’s reach and potential.
According to the Deputy Minister, IDC will get more drilling and workover assignments. How ever the Ministry also wants IDC to partner with upstream operators. So these partnerships could allow IDC to earn direct production shares. This change aims to diversify income sources and boost long-term profits.
Khudair pointed out the need to follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) rules. He called for stronger training programs and tighter safety standards. He believes these steps are vital for protecting workers and improving performance.
IDC Director General Hassan Mohammed Hassan shared an update on the company’s current work. He said the main operational issues are nearly solved. He also praised the Iraqi team for working with great skill and commitment. Their efforts help the company meet goals and take on bigger tasks.
Basra Oil Company’s Director General, Basim Abdul Karim Nasser, also spoke at the meeting. As well as he praised IDC’s knowledge and professionalism. He said the teamwork between oil sector firms supports Iraq’s economy. Together, they help deliver key projects and boost national production.
The Ministry of Oil plans to use IDC as a main partner in future projects. With new tools, stronger support, and more training, Iraq Drilling Company is ready for growth. The company’s improved role will help Iraq reach its energy and production targets faster.
