Iraq Discusses Economic Cooperation with European Investment Bank

Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti in Luxembourg to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation. The meeting focused on supporting investment, funding key projects, and improving Iraq’s infrastructure.

According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, both sides explored strategies to enhance collaboration in development initiatives. They emphasized creating opportunities for private sector growth and reducing reliance on public funding. Additionally, the discussion addressed global economic trends and their potential effects on Iraq’s economy.

Minister Hussein highlighted Iraq’s commitment to working with international financial institutions, particularly the EIB, to secure funding for critical projects. He stressed the importance of infrastructure improvements and attracting investment to strengthen the country’s financial sector. Furthermore, he underlined the need to meet all requirements to finalize a framework agreement that would establish a formal joint partnership between Iraq and the EIB.

Vigliotti assured the Iraqi delegation that the European Investment Bank stands ready to provide technical guidance, financial support, and advisory services. She noted that the EIB aims to help Iraq implement sustainable development projects and enhance economic stability. She added that collaboration could include financing infrastructure, supporting development programs, and facilitating private sector engagement.

The meeting reflected both parties’ desire to create stronger economic ties and to align Iraq’s development priorities with international investment practices. By coordinating closely with the EIB, Iraq aims to secure long-term financing solutions and ensure successful execution of projects that stimulate growth.

In conclusion, the discussion marked an important step toward deepening Iraq’s international economic partnerships. Both Iraq and the EIB emphasized commitment, mutual support, and clear frameworks for future cooperation. The partnership aims to promote sustainable development, improve infrastructure, and strengthen Iraq’s overall economic environment.
