Iraq Celebrates National Entrepreneurship Day to Empower Youth

Iraq has officially designated 4th March as National Entrepreneurship Day, the government announced. Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship for economic growth. He highlighted that the initiative supports young innovators and strengthens the private sector.

During the opening of the second “Riyada” Entrepreneurship Conference and Exhibition in Baghdad, the Prime Minister praised the program. He said it empowers youth-led startups and encourages creative business solutions. He also noted that over 500,000 young Iraqis have joined the initiative, including around 27 percent women.

Al-Sudani explained that National Entrepreneurship Day reflects Iraq’s commitment to a youth-driven economic awakening. He stressed that partnerships between entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and training centers will turn challenges into opportunities.

The government plans to expand the Riyada initiative into a formal institutional body. This body will connect young entrepreneurs with banks and training programs. Moreover, it will continue to provide access to loans, mentorship, and business guidance.

To further support innovation, the government has introduced entrepreneurship education in 80 vocational schools. Plans are underway to extend this education to universities. Al-Sudani underlined the importance of nurturing young talent and promoting female participation in business. He said these efforts will help reduce youth and women’s unemployment across Iraq.

The Prime Minister also recognized the role of the Central Bank of Iraq and other financial institutions. They have contributed through funding, training, and advisory services to strengthen the initiative.

Furthermore, the program encourages collaboration with the private sector. Through these partnerships, Iraq aims to create sustainable jobs, boost economic growth, and cultivate a new generation of business leaders.

By officially marking National Entrepreneurship Day, Iraq signals its dedication to fostering innovation, supporting startups, and building a resilient private sector. This initiative forms part of broader economic reforms that prioritize youth engagement, gender inclusion, and long-term prosperity.
