The Ministry of Oil announced on Sunday that Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in liquid gas production and is now exporting the surplus to international markets. This milestone was highlighted during a visit by Izzat Saber Ismail, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, to the Middle East factory for manufacturing liquid gas cylinders in Basra, a key private sector investment project.
Ismail emphasized the government’s strong support for private sector investment, particularly in the liquid gas industry. He noted that such investment projects play a crucial role in advancing the national industry. He also stressed the importance of supporting the manufacturing of iron and plastic cylinders according to international standards, as well as developing effective marketing strategies for local consumption. Coordination with the Gas Filling and Services Company is key to achieving the shared goals of both the Ministry and the private sector.
The Ministry has successfully reached self-sufficiency in liquid gas, with daily production exceeding 8,000 tons. Plans are also in place to expand the use of liquid gas, replacing various liquid fuels in industrial, service, and residential sectors. Ismail pointed out that these developments are part of broader efforts to support investment projects that further promote the use of liquid gas.
The visit, which included the Director General of the Petroleum Projects Company and other officials, featured a tour of the plant to review the production process and discuss further steps for the growth of Iraq’s liquid gas sector.
