Iraq Artawi Expansion: Artawi Energy Rise

Iraq moves forward with a major new plan to grow its oil sector. Leaders describe the Artawi development as a turning point for national energy goals. They say the Artawi energy rise will strengthen production, increase investment, and support long-term economic stability. Officials highlight the project as a top priority for Iraq’s upstream ambitions. However, they also stress the need for strong partnerships to speed up work and meet targets.

Basim Khudair, the Deputy Minister of Oil for Upstream Affairs, explains the importance of the new plan. He says the Artawi project stands as the country’s largest infrastructure effort in the oil sector. It includes four connected projects led by TotalEnergies. This cooperation creates a clear roadmap for stronger output.Additonally, it also helps Iraq build better systems, safer facilities, and modern extraction methods. Khudair emphasizes that Iraq now focuses on faster development to support national revenue.

The government also approves a major contract for the Artawi Central Processing Facility. As well as, leaders grant ENKA, a Turkish engineering and construction company, permission to handle the work. They choose ENKA to speed up the project and ensure strong results. Officials say the company brings proven experience and clear planning. This decision supports wider efforts to advance the Artawi energy rise.

The Artawi oil field sits in southern Iraq and holds reserves of about 2.4 billion barrels. Leaders expect a dramatic increase in output once new upgrades take effect. So, they predict a sharp jump in production compared to current levels. This future growth strengthens Iraq’s position in global markets. It also supports local development across Basra and nearby areas.

Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani explains the value of the field. He says Artawi produces three types of high-quality oil.As well as, he calls the field one of Iraq’s most important assets. The ministry includes the site in the Gas Growth Integrated Project. This project forms part of a $27 billion agreement between Iraq and TotalEnergies. The plan aims to build stronger energy systems, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.

Artawi currently produces about 60,000 barrels per day. Officials plan to increase this amount to nearly 210,000 barrels per day. They work with TotalEnergies to collect and use associated gas from five fields in Basra, including Artawi. In addition, this strategy reduces flaring, protects the environment, and boosts economic gains. It also supports long-term growth across the sector.

The wider project includes a new gas processing plant. The plant will handle up to 600 million cubic feet in two stages. The government plans steady progress as teams expand systems and improve output. Leaders expect the Artawi energy rise to create new jobs, strengthen exports, and support Iraq’s economic future. They say the project will shape the country’s energy landscape for many years.
