Iraq’s Ports Director, Farhan Al-Fartousi, announced the successful inauguration of a new maritime line with the arrival of a giant South Korean vessel at Umm Qasr Port on Wednesday. This historic step marks the first of its kind, with the vessel being a container ship from South Korean company HMM.
Al-Fartousi highlighted the significance of this new shipping line, noting that the ship is 366 meters long and has a capacity of 16,000 containers, although it arrived with a lower load. This marks the beginning of an important trade cooperation between Iraq and South Korea, with further expectations for increased flows of goods through Iraq’s ports.
The Director emphasized Iraq’s efforts to strengthen maritime transport partnerships with leading countries, aiming to enhance the country’s economic benefits and contribute to national growth by boosting trade activity.
