Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani led a meeting on Sunday to evaluate the plans for summer electricity supply and progress on critical oil sector projects.
The Minister of Electricity presented strategies to ensure a stable power supply, focusing on fuel station operations, while the Minister of Oil outlined plans for fuel supply to power plants. This included the review of floating and mobile platforms.
Several key decisions were made during the meeting:
- Completion of a gas transmission line from Basra’s power plants to a floating platform.
- Approval of a new 40km gas pipeline from Al-Mahmoudiya to Bismayah, aimed at ensuring the full-capacity operation of the Bismayah power plant.
- Assessment of fuel oil supply, storage, and import logistics.
The meeting also covered major oil sector projects, including:
- Basra-Haditha oil pipeline.
- Seawater supply pipelines and treatment plant at Basra Oil Company (BOC).
- Offshore pipeline expansions (third, fourth, and fifth phases).
- Artawi (Ratawi) gas complex (Phase II).
- Development of Mansouriya, Akkas, and Faihaa (Block 9) oil fields.
- FCC fluid catalytic cracking unit project.
- Fifth and sixth licensing rounds for new fields.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing government program projects, with an update on the execution rates as of February 2025.
