Iraq’s inflation rate fell in June, offering relief to consumers across the country. The Ministry of Planning reported a clear drop in consumer prices, thanks mostly to lower food and housing costs. This trend points to a positive shift in the economy, with falling prices in Iraq playing a central role.
Monthly inflation went down by 1.2% compared to May. At the same time, annual inflation fell 0.6% from the same month last year. These changes came from detailed surveys carried out by the Central Statistical Organization in every province.
Food and non-alcoholic drinks saw the biggest monthly drop, falling by 1.7%. The housing and tobacco categories followed closely, each showing a decline of 2.1%. This downward trend helped push the total cost of living lower across Iraq.
In contrast, not all prices fell. Clothing and footwear went up slightly, by 0.1%. Transport prices fell 0.6%, while restaurants and hotels saw a small dip of 0.1%. These slight changes kept overall inflation numbers stable and manageable.
Other sectors showed mixed results. Prices for entertainment and culture rose 0.9%, and miscellaneous goods and services increased by 0.4%. On the other hand, health, education, and household equipment prices stayed the same as the previous month. This shows that some parts of the economy remained stable while others adjusted.
Core inflation, which does not include unstable prices like fruits, vegetables, fuel, or cooking gas, also dropped. It went down by 0.7% year-on-year. This suggests a broader trend of easing costs in non-volatile sectors of the economy.
Experts see falling prices in Iraq as a helpful sign. It can ease pressure on families and encourage more spending, which supports economic growth. When food and housing become more affordable, people can better meet their daily needs.
This decline in inflation may lead to increased confidence in the local economy. If the trend continues, the government might see better results in its financial planning and budget efforts. For now, many Iraqi families can feel some relief, as falling prices in Iraq create more breathing room in their monthly expenses.
