Iraq has taken a major step toward professionalising its football industry through a specialized economic control workshop held in Madrid. LALIGA hosted representatives from Iraq Stars League clubs to strengthen financial management, enhance economic control, and support long-term sustainability. This initiative strengthens Iraq’s football sector by providing clubs with practical tools to maintain competitive leagues while promoting financial stability.
During the Iraq football workshop, LALIGA experts offered detailed guidance on budgeting, competitive sustainability, and effective economic control. Participants gained insights into strategic financial planning and risk management, ensuring clubs operate efficiently while upholding fairness. LALIGA President Javier Tebas highlighted financial fair play as a central pillar for successful leagues. He encouraged Iraqi clubs to implement strict budgeting, transparent accounting, and strategic investment practices to secure their future growth.
Carlos Ruiz-Ocaña, Head of International Special Projects at LALIGA, explained that Spanish expertise can guide Iraq’s football ecosystem to higher standards. He highlighted areas including grassroots development, audiovisual broadcasting, anti-piracy measures, and league professionalisation. This collaboration demonstrates that knowledge exchange can strengthen Iraq’s sports industry while improving club management and operational efficiency.
The workshop also emphasized networking between club officials and LALIGA specialists, fostering idea-sharing and practical problem-solving. Iraqi clubs now have access to modern tools, strategic frameworks, and global best practices to enhance financial control. The initiative aims to reduce economic risks and ensure stability across the league, enabling clubs to compete more effectively.
By improving economic control, Iraq’s football clubs can attract investment, support youth development, and raise professional standards. This collaboration also lays a strong foundation for sustainable growth within the Iraqi sports industry. As clubs adopt these measures, Iraqi football will experience more structured, financially responsible, and competitive operations, benefiting players, officials, and fans alike.
