Iraq – Khor Mor Gas Stability Returns After Attack

The Khor Mor gas stability issue in Iraq shifted again as the field restarted full operations. The Electricity Ministry in the Kurdistan Region explained that the site resumed work and restored gas flows to several power stations. The ministry also stressed that engineers worked nonstop to bring back normal output. Moreover, teams increased monitoring efforts to prevent further disruptions.

The restart followed a drone attack that created large concerns about security in the area. The strike hit the facility and forced workers to stop production for safety reasons. However, technicians quickly assessed the damage and confirmed that the field could restart safely. The ministry also coordinated with field operators to stabilize all systems. As a result, the region received electricity again, and many districts recovered power.

Dana Gas, which operates the field along with Crescent Petroleum, described the strike as serious. The hit targeted a storage tank and created severe concerns about future threats. Yet the company acted fast and repaired the affected equipment. Furthermore, its teams strengthened safety procedures and added new inspections across the site. The company also highlighted that the attack did not harm workers, and all staff continued normal duties later.

Although the Khor Mor gas stability issue affected electricity in many cities, the attack did not impact oil production or exports. Iraqi officials clarified that the oil sector continued operations without any delays. This statement reassured investors and energy partners. In addition, the government boosted coordination with security forces to prevent similar incidents.

The strike revived memories of earlier drone assaults on oil facilities in the region. Those attacks reduced output and caused major economic concerns. Therefore, Iraqi authorities formed a joint team to investigate the latest strike. This team aims to track the attackers and limit future risks. Officials also prepared stronger protection plans for all gas and oil fields. This step aims to secure supply lines and support long-term stability.

Khor Mor holds one of the largest gas reserves in the region. The field contains more than eight trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Because of this, Iraq considers the field a vital source of power. Additionally, the KM250 expansion project recently increased the site’s total capacity. The upgrade boosted production of dry gas, condensates, and liquefied petroleum gas. The project also improved energy supplies across the Kurdistan Region. Consequently, many areas now rely heavily on the field for electricity generation.

Today, the Khor Mor gas stability challenge continues to shape energy planning in Iraq. The government seeks stronger security, clearer regulations, and faster responses to threats. Companies also aim to protect infrastructure and safeguard daily production. With these combined efforts, Iraq hopes to maintain steady energy growth and limit disruptions.
